Artist Statement

All my work, whether painting or metal work, brings me to a healing and restoration in the exercise of God's gifts. In more recent years, the dialogue and physical struggles of working in metal is one of the results of this act of faith and thanksgiving, coupled with the necessary discipline to see it through. There is, on particular piece. It has life of its own, transcending its maker, and giving, perhaps, joy, beauty, or meaning to another. In a world seduced by technology, there is a sacred place for those simple had made creation which mush remind us all, one way or another, of who we are, who we wish to become and, most importantly, who we truly are.

Biography

A resident of Georgia, born in 1951 in Paterson, New Jersey, the first son of a World War II marriage between an American paratrooper and an English beauty, Richard was raised along with three brothers in Decatur, GA.
He studied drawing and painting at Atlanta Collegue of Art, and received his weldeing certification from Seminole community Collegue in Stanford, Florida. He has paintings and metal work in both private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
Frpg Island Metal Works got its name from the Frog Island Post Office in Leicester, England, where richard's mother was originally from. Richard, Connie, and their son Destin live on five acres with house and studio in Douglasville, Georgia, thirty-five miles west of Atlanta.

The Process

All of my metal work is made through the utilization of hat forged and welded steel. I use a Miller-Matic 200 MIC welder along with hat and cold bending and forming.
