Noel vs RD Poverty
The
storm Noel uncovers the poverty of the Dominican Republic camouflageated
by recent apartments and business towers constructions, great
baseball players, orchestras of merengue and Bachata, thousand
of "jeepetas" (a fashion simbolic of economic power),
isolated tourism resources away from the cities,...

Ring of Poverty in
RD
The "ring of
poverty" it is too thick in comparison with the finger
in the form of all those high buildings (towers), or the
small group that has the economic power in the Dominican
Republic. The consequences of that uppercase economic
contrast it generates the early morning large line in
the American Consulate to request a visa of immigrant,
suicidal trips in small boats (yawls) through the sea
toward Puerto Rico and from there toward New York, crimes,
delinquencies, large number of people requesting or selling
foods and small articles in the streets, etc.
As the country sides
don't offer the possibilities of a worthy life, in economic
and educational term, the country side people moves toward
the cities. Many take illigally possession of public terrestrial
that in most of the cases should be dedicated to the preservation
of the flora and natural beauties o any country, such
as margins of the rivers, beaches, parks, etc. , They
built housings no appropriate with the minimum of economic
resources. Is the same case in all the cities of the Dominican
Republic. There is no a law (if there is one it is not
fulfilled) that controls the urbanization and quality
of constructions of housings. For such a reason, around
the cities are formed "rings of extremely vulnerable
poverty", alone no to the hunger, unemployment, delinquency,
crimes, but also, to the natural phenomena as hurricanes
and storms that so frequent are in the Caribbean.
Anillo de Pobreza en
RD
