About the Newsletter - Hacerca de los Boletines Informativos

(Texto Español Debajo)
I moved from Chicago to Long Island in 1983. The cultural Hispanic movement in the Island was very reduced. I would say null. The most important activities happen there was the Puerto Rican Parade in the 5th Avenue of Bay Shore, area where I lived, and many club parties everywere with life music. I do not dance much back in the Dominican Republic, but in Chicago and Long Island, I became a good dancer of bachata, merengue, salsa and cumbia.
There was no Hispanic newspapers. Some commercial and popular muscic-singer magazine that disappeared in the same way that they arrived. I had the idea of creating an small monthly cultural magazine illustrated with photos of my paintings and drawings, and to find some adds to finance the impression. I don't have the gifts of writing, but in a time of "dryness", any water of a dry coconut will release the thirst. That is how born "Voces". The first numbers was printed in February, 1987. I dedicated that edition to the Puerto Rican and Dominican María Eugenio de Hosto, because he is a multinational symbol. No could continue the magazine, because every month was a nighmare trying to find adds to cover the impression. Possibly, that happen because was a "cultural magazine". Who care about art when people spend most of their every day living inside of a sweat factory to paid for their hight living cost!!! They want parties, fun. ("To Waist's Rhythm, Songs and Other Things"). Only four numbers could come out. Some years later, were created in Long Island large Hispanic newspapers (4 or 5) with an extraordinary distribution.
When I began to make the "outdoor shows" (outdoors exhibitions organized by museums, galleries, business associations, artists associations, library, private promoters, etc. ), I think in bring "Voces" from the dust, and use to communicate my philosophy and theory in the art, statements and itineraries of the exhibitions.
As an Art Educator I was by profession in the Dominican Republic, always come out in my mind the wish of teaching, and "Voces" was a perfect way. For the "outdoor shows", "Voces" became "Voice from the Studio -The Voice of the Art of Félix Berroa" -.

No habian periodicos hispanos.
Quieren fiestas, diversiones!!! ("A Ritmo de Cintura, Cantos y otras Vainas"). Solo cuatros numeros pudieron salir.
Para los "outdoor shows", "Voces" se transformaba en "Voice from the Studio" -The voice of the Art of Felix Berroa"-.
