FOR WHO I CREATE MY ART?
By Felix Berroa
Some artists are concentrated in create a reduce production. their egos can be more directed to exhibit in museums and galleries and to get newspapers art reviews. Having a work hanged in a museum can be their most values hope to feel be someone in art. Their works, more than be directed to a general public are created for the "specialist", the art critic, the galleries and museum curators. Becouse he take long time in producing an small quantity of works in a year, sometime he prices reach level that is not adjust to the social reality of his enviroment, facing the desperated "waiting" of some extraordinary collector fall in love with he piece of art. That problably happen one, two, three or none time in a year. Anyway his prices are very sustancial, those scarce sale, after the extraction of the 50 or 40 percent gallery feed are not enough for his personal sustents and the hight cost of the art suply, this very important for the process of his art.
I was one of those "dreamers" for more than fitheen years.
Now, durant the last nine years I create my works to be hanged in home or other public building walls with the same type of techniques quality, but with a subjects less agressives (see below photos of 1989 and above for late years), as I usually done when I exhibit in galleries and museums. I bolive that all work of art are supposed to be create with those intentions, a least that a particular "strong" subject from the social community reality be sponsored by goberment or other institution. A work of art can be considered to be hanged in a museum by particular circunstances in the time or social-historical protagonism of that work in a society or international, as the "Guernica" of Picasso. A work is not supposed to be create for museums. The museums were created to preserving the old and new with extraordinary importances, for the actual and future generations.
This extraordinary importances of "the new" in art, can be find thru a strong perseverance, no in a few, but in many work hours, days, months, of studies, experimentations thru many years. All that require of lot of money, so is important salling the produced art.
I have the background in art to selling my works between 1000.00 to 10,000.00 dollars. I haven"t do that. Thru the years I been selling my works between 100.00 to 4000.00 dollars. Selling my works with the techniques and subjects quality I have been produced in those prices had been atracted the sympathy and admiration of hundred of people that have purchase my works for their personal joy. All those purchase had been help me to make real many of my projects, idealized thru many years, since my Dominican Republic period. I'm very grateful with all those people, that had been fallow me thru many years giving me economic support thru their purchases. For all that, I still keep those prices (until I have sign a contract with a art representant or art dealer and they handled the prices). I prefer having my works in hundred of homes than one painting in a museum.
